Boniface Scoops Bundesliga Rookie of The Month Award

Super Eagles new invitee, Victor Boniface has been named Bundesliga rookie of the month for August on Friday night, his German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen confirmed.

Boniface saw off competition from Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig and Nigerian-born Noah Atubolu of Freiburg for the award.

Bayer Leverkusen confirmed on their X (Twitter) handle of the coveted prize.

Boniface has enjoyed an impressive start to life for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga since joining in the summer from St. Union-Gilloise.

Boniface has scored four goals and recorded one assist in three Bundesliga games for Bayer Leverkusen.

He bagged a brace against RB Leipzig, before repeating the same feat against Darmstadt.

The 22-year-old is also in the running for Bundesliga’s August player of the month award.

Boniface is presently in the Super Eagles camp in Uyo for the Africa Nations Cup qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday and could possibly be in the starting lineup.

The striker is expected to make his Super Eagles debut against the Seleção dos Falcões e Papagaios.

Boniface was named in the 2022-23 Europa League team of the season.

Boniface was in an impressive form for his former club, Belgian Pro League outfit, Union Saint Gilloise scoring six goals and providing two assists in the competition.

The 22-year-old finished as the competition’s top scorer alongside Marcus Rashford of Manchester United.

Boniface signed a five-year deal with Leverkusen to end his sojourn in Belgium.
