Controversial Nigerian figure, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, is slated to face trial before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Despite being granted administrative bail, Bobrisky was unable to meet the conditions set forth by the EFCC.

Escorted by armed police operatives, Bobrisky arrived at the Federal High Court premises in Ikoyi, Lagos on Friday morning. The charges levelled against him primarily revolve around allegations of money laundering and the abuse of the Nigerian currency.

In a viral video, Bobrisky was seen spraying Naira notes onto the floor during a social event where he was being praised by a musician. As a result, he faces a six-count charge, including accusations of laundering N180 million through his company, Bob Express, and tampering with N490,000 notes by spraying them.

The charges, brought forth by EFCC counsel Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), allege both the abuse of the Naira currency and involvement in money laundering activities. Specifically, Bobrisky is accused of flaunting his wealth by spraying Naira notes at various social events, including the premiere of Beast of Two Worlds at the Film One Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos.

Furthermore, the EFCC contends that Bobrisky failed to adhere to regulations aimed at preventing money laundering, notably by neglecting to disclose significant financial transactions conducted through his company, Bob Express.

If convicted, Bobrisky could face severe penalties, including substantial fines and potential imprisonment, underscoring the Nigerian government’s commitment to combat financial crimes irrespective of individuals’ social or celebrity status.
