Benin Republic Football Federation Appoints Rohr As New Coach

Former Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr on Tuesday been appointed as the new coach of Benin Republic national team, the Squirrels.
Rohr’s appointment was announced at the Executive Committee meeting of the Benin Football Federation in Porto Novo.
The appointment is Rohr’s first since he was relieved of his duties as coach if the Nigerian national team following a run of unconvincing performances.
Benin is the 5th African nation after Gabon, Niger Burkina Faso and Nigeria that 69-year-old Rohr will take charge of.
Rohr who was a onetime Bayern Munich coach is expected to begin his job on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
The Franco-German’s immediate assignment will be to qualify the Squirrels for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Ivory Coast. His first match is the tournament qualifier against Rwanda on March 20
Since losing Nigeria’s job in December 2021, Rohr travelled to Qatar 2022 World Cup where he featured as a pundit during the tournament.
