The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) faced challenges in the collation process in two of the state’s most difficult-to-reach local government areas, necessitating the postponement of the announcement of results until noon Monday.

Farouk Kuta, the Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Minna, cited difficulties and challenges in the collation process in these areas as the reason for the delay.

The preliminary results indicate a significant lead for the PDP, with victories in five out of the declared local government areas, namely Kolokuma/Opokuma, Yenagoa, Ogbia, Sagbama, Nembe, and Ekeremor. Conversely, the APC secured a win in one local government area.

The results from Brass and Southern Ijaw local government areas were yet to be declared before the suspension of the collation process by INEC.

In Yenagoa, the PDP garnered 37,777 votes compared to the APC’s 14,534 votes, while in Kolokuma/Opokuma, the PDP received 18,465 votes against the APC’s 5349 votes. Ogbia witnessed the PDP securing 18,435 votes and the APC scoring 16,319 votes. Sagbama recorded 35,504 votes for the PDP and 6608 votes for the APC, while in Ekeremor, the PDP obtained 23,172 votes, and the APC scored 8445. In Nembe, the APC polled 22,248 votes, while the PDP received 4,556 votes.

The cancellation resulted from protests by PDP stakeholders over the alleged hijacking of election materials by suspected APC thugs, preventing voters, especially PDP supporters, from casting their votes. The PDP further claimed that many votes attributed to the APC in the area were fraudulent and called for their annulment.
