Battle Against Mediterranean Knights: Super Eagles To Train Behind Closed Doors

Ahead of the first leg of their two-legged AFCON 2025 qualifier tomorrow, October 11, 2024, Super Eagles will have the final training today at the Nest of Champions Uyo, venue of the encounter.

Coach Austin Eguavoen is having the full compliments of his 23-man squad with all the invited players now fully in camp.

The last trio to hit camp viz Kelechi Iheanacho, Chidera Ejuke, and Bright Osayi-Samuel arrived on Wednesday October 9 at the camp located at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to complete the number of invited players.

The trio will be fully involved in the today’s final training aimed at paying eagle-eye attention on all departments of the team and picking the starting 11 for the Knights showdown.

Eguavoen and his consortium of assistants made up of Rangers head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu and Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, have brought in their combined wealth of experience since they were assembled to navigate Eagles course following the resignation of former coach, Finidi George and ill-fated contract to German tactician, Bruno Labbadia.

Their efforts has so far paid off with a 3-0 win over Republic of Benin led by former Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr and a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali.

The team will be hoping to consolidate in against Mediterranean Knights tomorrow before heading for the return leg in Libya on October 15.

Outright win for the Eagles will be an added advantage ahead of the second leg. Eagles currently lead the Group D of the qualifier with four points in two matches followed closely by Benin Republic, Rwanda and lastly Libya in that order.

While Nigeria will be slugging it out with Libya in Uyo tomorrow, Benin Republic will equally be locking horns with Libya at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan where the Cheetahs have adopted as their home ground.
