Austen-Peters Counts Blessings As 10,000-Acre Film Village Comes Alive

Nigerian movie producer, Bolanle Austen-Peters (BAP), is in a joyous mood after she successfully transformed what she dubbed thick forest, into a Film Village, in Epe area of Lagos.

The lawyer turned movie director and producer unveiled the 10,000-acre film village in Epe, revealing to curious fans that the impressive shots in her latest movie “House of GA’A”, were taken at the latest film village in town.

The multiple award winning producer and alumni of University of Lagos and London School of Economics, informed that the her film village is open not only for film production but also for other events, including outdoor celebrations, in what looks like open invitation for Owambe parties.

She wrote: “So many have asked where we shot House of GA’A. This is it! BAP Productions Film Village in Epe. Over 10,000 acres of land, rolling hills, huts, and other facilities. Open for hire.”

She stated: “This is what we started with, greenery, dense forestation when we went the first time. Everything was just this large expanse of land and then I called Bisola. I wanted to give women a chance. She had never done anything like this before. But I saw the fire in her eyes

“She moved in, cleared the place, and started construction. Before we knew it, in a couple of months, we had all the buildings that you see now in place. And this is where we took all these beautiful shots that you see in the movie. This is the BAP film village.”

The 55-year-old entrepreneur and Theatre Director is the founder and Artistic Director of BAP Productions and the Arts and Culture Centre, Terra Kulture, in Lagos. She has been described by the CNN as the “woman pioneering theatre in Nigeria.” Named one of the most influential women in Africa by Forbes Afrique and has been recognised with several awards for her contribution to the arts.

Her movie, based on the life of Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, is known as the “All time highest grossing biopic in West Africa.”

Interestingly, her latest movie House of GA’A, in the first week of its release made it to top 10 Global Chart for Non-English Films.
