Ulasi has been in the vanguard of projecting Atiku, describing him as the route to the liberation of the region. Atiku had, on his part, said he would let the Southeast take a turn at the presidency in 2027, meaning that he is prepared to do just one term in office if he wins the 2023 presidency. Ulasi in a recent national television interview argued that supporting Obi would deprive the Southeast a chance to play big at the national level if he lost.
He said that as a member of the PDP supporting Obi for the presidential election could rob other PDP candidates at lower levels their victory, a chance he was not prepared to take.

Mr Peter Obi has national appeal. especially to Nigerian youths, but generally viewed in the Southeast as being representative of their chance at the Presidency since 24 years of the current democratic experience which began in 1999.
This is not the first time candidate Atiku will be promising the Southeast a shot at the presidency after him. In 2019, Atiku as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with Mr Obi as his running mate also pledged to ‘cede’ power to the Southeast in 2023 if the region supported his joint ticket with Obi.
According to Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, the strategic appointment of Ulasi as his Technical Adviser for the Southeast region and Pedro Obaseki as Media Presidential Consultant are with immediate effect.
Ulasi, who hails from Anambra State is an experienced politician and has served the PDP in different capacities both in Anambra State and at the national secretariat of the party.
Pedro, is a seasoned media personality from Edo State with rich experience in political communication.
Both states – Anambra and Edo – are of critical interest to Peter Obi’s Labour Party. While he is expected to record a clear win in his home State of Anambra, where Ulasi also hails from, Edo State is considered a major battleground for the PDP, the Labour Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In what appeared a confirmation of the battleground status of Edo State, its governor, Godwin Obaseki of the PDP, recently had cause to publicly deny claims that he was working for Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party and reaffirmed his membership of the PDP.
