Despite the busy electioneering campaigns by the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the February 25 polls, the former Vice president of Nigeria on Sunday evening fecilitated with Arsenal Football Club on their Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The latest instalment of the North London derby ended in a 2-0 win for the Gunners at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium which has slowly but steadily convinced a lot of the supporters and neutrals of their title credentials.
Abubakar, who was the country’s vice president in the government headed by Olusegun Obasanjo, took to his verified Twitter handle to celebrate with the team.
“Nice win, @Arsenal! -AA. #TOTARS,” read Atiku’s tweet.
This was followed by mixed reactions as those who are against his presidential ambitions suggested that he will not be as victorious as the club.
There were others however on the other side of the divide who backed the Turaki of Adamawa.
The one-time Nigeria Customs officer is a supporter of the football club and was once seen at the Executive box at the Emirates stadium watching a live football game involving his favourite club.
An own goal from Hugo Lloris and a strike from outside the box by the captain, Martin Odegaard, were all Mikel Arteta’s side required to go eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City and nine points above Manchester United.
