The All Progressives Congress (APC) has once again proposed an adjustment of its Timetable for  participation in the 2023 General  elections and has moved its Special  Congresses for Delegates  to May 16  and 17.

Special Congresses were originally scheduled to hold from Thursday, May 12, until the Party, which is currently racing against time, took the decision to change the date and allow time for critical announcements and orientation of committee members before the Congresses.

This will be the third time the ruling party will be presenting timetable for its crucial primary elections after its National Convention of March 26, 2022.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently warned political parties to ensure they meet its own deadline  for primary election.

It was gathered that the latest change was to allow the party set up committee  for the special congresses which was originally scheduled for  Thursday May 12, 2022. Sources told Prime Business Africa that the Secretary General of APC Iyiola Omisore  was given a marching order ‘from above’  to meet with a few  other stakeholders  and adjust timetable when it became clear on Monday that three days to the Special Delegate Congresses, a committee to that effect was yet to be constituted.

A newly constituted committee is also supposed to be briefed preparatory to the Special Congresses. ”All these cannot happen between now and Thursday, hence the change,” a chieftain of the party in Osun State said Monday night.

”The adjusted timetable will now allow the party to set up the Special Congresses Committee and organise a brief workshop on the modalities for them.”

PBA  was also told that a new Timetable ,which will likely be made public on Tuesday, will announce new dates for all congresses except that of the Presidency which still holds  between May 30 and June 1, 2022.

According to the new timetable being proposed, Congresses to elect Local Government Area, State and National Delegates will hold May 16 to May 17, 2022; Primary Election for governorship candidates will hold on Friday May 20, 2022; State House of Assembly, Sunday May 22; House of Representatives, Tuesday May 24; Senate, Wednesday May 25.

Primary election for presidency, Prime Business Africa reliably gathered, remains unchanged on May 30 – June 1.
