Real Madrid’s gain could turn out to be the loss of Brazil’s national team following the contract extension by manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti on Friday extended his contract with the Spanish La Liga giants until the summer of 2026.

He returned to the Bernabeu in the 2021/2022 season after a stint at Premier League side Everton on an initial three-year contract.

The Brazil national team had been reported in several media outlets as having agreed in principle to sign Ancelotti to lead them to the 2024 Copa America tournament but may have to wait until the end of the 2025/2026 campaign and possibly take charge of the Samba men for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.

Ancelotti won 10 titles in Real Madrid including two UEFA Champions League titles, the second being in his first year upon the return to Santiago Bernabeu.

The Real manager is the only coach to have won four European Cups, while he is also the first to win all five major European leagues in Italy, England, France, Germany and Spain.

He also won the competition as a player of AC Milan.

Real claimed the Copa del Rey and finished runners-up to Barcelona in the Spanish top flight. They were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

In the current campaign, ‘Los Blancos’ lead La Liga after 18 matches and remain in all their European and domestic cup competitions.
