Anambra Police Commissioner Itam Applauds Residents For Standing Up Against Illegal Sit-at-home

May 30th every year has been set aside by pro-Biafra groups to commemorate the day in 1967 when Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who was then the military Governor of Eastern Nigeria government, declared Biafra Republic’s secession from Nigeria following political uprising in the country then. Other subsequent events led to a civil war that lasted for almost three years.

However, in recent years, some pro-Biafra groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been declaring sit-at-home on that day as part  of their agitations. The action has in the past three years posed threat to security in states across Southeast Nigeria, prompting security agencies to make special deployment of personnel to troubled spots in the region.

The Anambra police commissioner  charged the officers deployed for the assignment to be proactive and diligent in the discharge of their duties.

He also urged residents of Anambra to remain vigilant, law-abiding and continue to cooperate with security agencies in providing credible intelligence to help combat criminal activities.

“To this end, the CP Charges the personnel deployed for this assignment to be resolute, firm, and professional in the discharge of their duties and urges residents to remain vigilant, and law-abiding and continue to assist the Police and other security agencies, especially with information as we synergize and collaborate towards combating all forms of criminality as well as maintaining public order and safety in the State,” Ikenga stated.
