Anambra Govt Reacts As NCAA, FAAN Suspend Opening Of Anambra International Airport

ANAMBRA State government has reacted to an alleged directive by Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA) to Nigeria Civil Aviation Authorty (NCAA) and Federal Aiports Authority of Nigeria FAAN) to suspend formal comissioning of the Anambra International Cargo Airport for commercial operations, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 30th October, 2021.

The State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Don Adinuba who raised the alarm in Awka, said the development has political undertone.

As the airport opening date drew closer, NSA reportedly directed NCAA and FAAN to suspend the ceremony citing insecurity as a reason for the decision.

Adinuba said that people of the state are disappointed about the development, and believe it was politically motivated.

He said the State Governor, Willie Obiano was already making efforts to ensure that the event is not scuttled highlighting the importance of the airport to not just in the Southeast, but in the entire nation.

The Commissiorner stated that the state government met all the requirements for the approval in line with international standards and wondered why the latest development.

Some sources fingered some influential political figures from the state of working against the commissioning ceremony to prevent the current administration in the state from taking glory over the project.

The construction of the Anambra International Cargo Airport was completed with a test-run of its runway conducted in an open ceremony held on April 30 this year to determine its suitability for arcraft landing.
