American singer and the other half of the hip hop duo, Rae Stremmurd recently disclosed that he is partly a Nigerian which has somewhat pleasantly shocked a lot of his fans around the world especially from Africa, and Nigeria in particular.

There are so many superstar singers, actors, producers of Nigerian descent making huge strides in the game.

In this piece, Prime Business Africa limits the searchlight on seven out of a whole lot and presents some Hollywood stars who are actually born of Nigerian heritage.

 

1. Danny Glover

Danny Glover is a household name in Hollywood and has graced the movie jackets of several blockbuster American movies.

But not many realize that he has Nigerian blood running through him and actually hails from Imo state, south eastern Nigeria.

The actor was in Nkwerre, Imo state in the year 2021 and was handed a chieftancy title by his kinsmen.

2. Forest Whitaker

Many Nigerian movie buffs are fans of the all-action packed movie star, Forest Whittaker.

Whitaker would probably pass for a black actor with his heritage from the Caribbeans, but he is proudly Nigerian.

The actor and producer is also from Nkwerre in Imo state and was awarded a chieftancy title same day as Danny Glover two years ago.

3. Chika

This American rapper became a sensation with her song: ‘A Letter to Kanye Omari West’ which hit the airwaves in 2018.

The song has a political undertone as it was a crticsim of the more Illustrious Kanye West for his open support of former American president, Donald Trump.

4. Uzo Aduba

Netflix sweetheart, Uzo Aduba is proudly a dual citizen. She is Nigerian by heritage and a US citizen by residence.

She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to parents from Nigeria who hail from Onitsha, Anambra state.

Aduba grew up in Medfield, Massachusetts. She graduated from Medfield High School in 1999. She attended Boston University, where she studied classical voice and competed in track and field. She has called her family a “sports family”.

Uzoamaka Aduba is a successful Nigerian-American actress known for her impressive role as Suzanne Warren on the Netflix original series.

The ‘Orange Is the New Black’ sensation is currently expecting a baby with her husband Robert Sweeting.

5. Nonso Anozie

Nonso Anozie is another thespian that makes our list here.

The bloke is built like a tank and always take up the ‘tough guy’ roles which he delivers expertly.

Anozie is one of the stars that made the television drama, Dracula and Game of Thrones great to watch.

6. Rotimi Akinosho

Simply known as Rotimi, the 35-year old singer who has a, Yoruba father and an Igbo mother, Rotimi is a singer repute in the United States.

Akinosho is a singer as well as an actor who acted the role of Darius Morrison on the Starz series Boss, and as Andre Coleman on the series, Power.

7. Jidenna

Jidenna is signed to Janelle Monáe’s Wondaland Records label and is another proud American singer with Nigerian roots.

In fact he featured the duo of Femi Kuti and Mr Eazi in his popular song: ’85 to Africa’

Jidenna whose father was a University lecturer at the Enugu state University also had other big songs.
