House of Reps reacts to Alex Mascot saga

Ikwechegh Saga: House of Reps Condemns Act, Calls For Due Process

As the Alex Mascot Ikwechegh assault on E-Bolt Driver continues to trend, the House of Representative has reacted to the action of their embattled member saying his action is not in their character.

The office of the House Spokesman in an official statement released late Monday night, the House said it was monitoring the event and the reactions it has continued to generate.

As representatives of the people, the statement noted that elected officials members hold themselves to the highest standards pf ethical conduct and accountability in both their official and private engagements adding that any act by a member contrary those ethics will be treated with utmost seriousness.

The statement, which was signed by Representative Akin Rotimi jnr, titled “Response to Allegations of Assault Involving Rep. Alex Ikwechegh (APGA, Abia)”and dished out via the House X handle@HouseNGR formerly twitter reads: “The House of Representatives is monitoring media reports concerning an alleged incident involving Rep. Alex Ikwechegh (APGA, Abia).

”These reports, which have garnered widespread media coverage and public attention, detail accusations of a physical confrontation with an e-hailing driver, Citizen Stephen Abuwatseya, and the use of threatening language.

”The 10th Assembly, House of Representatives, takes these allegations very seriously. As elected officials, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethical conduct and accountability in our official engagements and privately.

”Any behaviour that falls short of these standards is a matter of concern, and we are committed to addressing such issues with the utmost seriousness

”We are aware that the matter is now before the Nigeria Police, and we urge the public to allow the due process of investigation to unfold”

The House further informed that it is open to further engagement from members of the public saying “We welcome further engagement from the public on the subject, which can be shared via email at akintunde.rotimi@nass.gov.ng, akinrotimi@gmail.com, even as we continue to monitor the situation” and finally re-affirmed its resolve to “remain dedicated to upholding the values of accountability, transparency, and ethical behavior that define the 10th Assembly, House of Representatives.”

Aside from being a politician, Alex Ifeanyi Mascot Ikwechegh is a businessman and founder of GrossField Group, Alex Ikwechegh foundation and a former Local Government Chairman of Aba North. He holds a degree in Business Management from the University of Calabar (UNICAL).
