Akpabio Speaks On His Reported Collapse While Seeing Off Tinubu

Following reports that he slumped during his 61st birthday colloquium held Thursday in Abuja, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio yesterday explained that he only suffered exhausted which was exacerbated by the malaria in his system.

Prime Business Africa recalls that the No. 3 Citizen reportedly collapsed after the event while seeing President Bola Tinubu off from the Transcorp Hilton Hotel venue of the colloquium and was wheeled on a stretcher to a hospital.

Addressing journalists on Friday in his office at the Senate Complex in Abuja, Akpabio did not confirm whether he slumped or not, but clarified that he had malaria which was worsened by the stress he had gone through before the event.

He said, “What eventually happened after the event was a show of humanity. I went home and I called my doctors and I was assured that I have malaria, mingled with stress, which could also be described in another way as exhaustion.

“In fact, anybody could be exhausted. Please, drink water daily so that you don’t get exhausted,” he advised the reporters.

The senate president assured that the National Assembly will continue with its legislative duties, adding that the ongoing defence of the 2024 budget by ministers and parastatals’ heads would continue as scheduled.

His words, “This is to say that the work goes on. I want to assure Nigerians that the National Assembly is intact and we are still going on with our duty, our appropriation.

“We will resume on 20th December. But before then, the various committees must have finished their work to enable us meet the target to pass the budget before the end of the year for the president to append his signature.”
