Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was on Monday, sworn in as the 7th substantive governor of Ondo State, after his victory in 16 November 2024 election.
By the inauguration, Aiyedatiwa has officially begun his first full four-year tenure after the death of his predecessor, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in 2023.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelChief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Odusola, administered the oath of office on Aiyedatiwa during a ceremony held at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, the state capital.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, the governor said the agenda set by his team will enable his administration tackle development challenges in the state, in the areas of infrastructure, industrialization, healthcare, power supply, education, human capital development, entrepreneurship and also cater to the welfare of the citizens.
Aiyedatiwa, who hails from Obe-Nla, an oil-rich community in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, also pledged to focus on investing in developing the tourism sector to stimulate economic activities and promote sustainable environment in the state.
He also hinted at investing in education and skills development while also increasing access to social services for citizens of the state.
“We will ensure that our citizens continue to have access to quality education and vocational skills training, enabling them to compete in the global economy and drive economic growth in our dear State,” the governor stated.

While acknowledging the challenges ahead, the governor expressed confidence that with the continued support and cooperation of the people, they will together, be able to surmount the obstacles.
Aiyedatiwa Pardons 43 Prisoners
In commemoration of inauguration, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced pardon for 43 prisoners who have been convicted for various offences in line with powers vested on him.
The governor further stated that within the next four years, his administration will work assiduously to attract investors to explore their mineral resources to boost revenue.
“In the next four years, we will work with interested investors and our development partners in ensuring that our Port Ondo becomes a reality.
“We will also facilitate investors to explore our large deposit of bitumen for local use and export purposes thereby generating huge revenue for the state,” Aiyedatiwa said.
The governor promised that he and his deputy, Olayide Adelami, will not rest on their oars as they will prioritize the welfare of the people.
