Super Eagles of Nigeria are still comfortably in charge in Group D of the AFCON qualifiers, despite aborted Matchday 4 game against Libya.

The Eagles lead the group with seven points even as Cheetahs of Benin who had a chance of overtaking Eagles failed to do so after losing 2-0 to Amavubi of Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday.  Benin nonetheless, maintain their second position on the log with six points while Rwanda have closed up in the third position with five points.

Embattled Libya currently under investigation by CAF Disciplinary board following their show of shame against the Eagles are rooted at the bottom with one point and from all indications will be potential absentees at the next AFCON in Morocco.

In other matches played on Tuesday, Sunday boxed Black Stars of Ghana into a corner at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya with a 2-0 victory. Senegal beat Flames of Malawi by a lone goal while Congo humbled Tanzania 2-0.

Meanwhile CAF says the aborted match will remain on hold until the Disciplinary board concludes their investigations.

Recall that the Continental football ruling body issued a statement on Tuesday confirming that the Libya against Nigeria match will not be holding following the ugly incident in Libya that forced the Eagles to head back home after 14 hours unpleasant experience.

CAF statement pushing the match into the cooler read “The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Qualifier fixture between Libya and Nigeria will not take place as scheduled tonight. The matter will be referred to the competent CAF bodies.”

Should CAF decide to end it as it is, the Eagles are already part of the Morocco party where they will resume their chase for a fourth AFCON title after three previous ones won in 1980, 1994 and 2013.

However, while the Libya/Nigeria game appears to overshadow discussions in sporting circles; some countries have already booked their places in AFCON 2025 after Matchday four games.

Four countries, Senegal, DR Congo, Algeria, and Cameroon are already in.

The last two rounds of qualifiers will take place next month, with more teams looking to join the already-qualified nations.
