Governor Ademola Adeleke has rejected Friday’s judgement of the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal which voided his victory at the July 16 2022 polls.

The Tribunal chaired by Justice Tertse Kume, declared his opponent and former governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, the winner.

The Osun tribunal also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw  Adeleke’s Certificate of return and be issued to Oyetola.

Reacting to the judgement, Senator Adeleke called it “a miscarriage of justice.”

In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), faulted the tribunal’s conclusion that there was over-voting in the election and ruled in  favour of Oyetola.

According to the statement, Adeleke described the resolution as “an unfair interpretation against the will of majority of voters.”

The Tribunal ruled that there was overvoting in some polling units across the State.

The statement titled: “Tribunal Judgement: Governor Adeleke Rejects Tribunal Verdict, Heads to Appeal Court,” indicated that the governor vowed to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal and urged his supporters to remain calm.

“Governor Adeleke vowed to appeal the judgement at the Court of Appeal, insisting he remains the rightful winner of the July 16 election.

“I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done. Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate,” Adeleke stated.

As Adeleke moves to appeal the ruling of the tribunal, it is expected that he would remain in office pending the determination of the suit at the Court of Appeal.
