The Nigerian side reached the second round after Sao Tome and Principe pulled out of the qualifying race citing logistical challenges.

Had São Tomé & Príncipe not pull out of the race for next year’s tournament, it could have been the first time Nigeria have to play back-to-back with the same country in both men’s and women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Both legs of the fixtures against Cape Verde will be played in November with the Falcons billed to host the first leg of the fixtures at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on November 27 and the second leg at Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde.

Nigeria will be seeking to make a record 15th appearance at the 2024 AWCON tournament which will be held in Morocco albeit no date has been made official by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Meanwhile, Cameroon, four-time finalists of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, will not play in next year’s tournament in Morocco after being eliminated by Kenya on Tuesday.

Cote d’Ivorie will also not be among the nations to play the tournament after they were also eliminated in the first round of qualifiers following the second leg matches.

The Indomitable Lionesses lost on penalties to Kenya while Cote d’Ivoire suffered a similar fate in their match against Tanzania.
