Terrorists Strike In Southern Kaduna, Claiming Six Lives After Zamfara Student Rescue

In a distressing turn of events, terrorists once again targeted innocent civilians in the Takanai community of Atyap Chiefdom, Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives on Tuesday night.

This harrowing incident unfolded just days after the release of abducted students in Zamfara.

The attack, which has sent shockwaves through the region, was confirmed by Mr. Samson Markus, the acting Secretary to the District Head of the Community.

According to Markus, the assailants believed to be Fulani herders, descended upon the village at approximately 7 p.m., unleashing a hail of gunfire that claimed the lives of four individuals within one household and two others in a separate family.

Markus described the horrifying ordeal, stating, “We were going about our normal businesses when we heard gunshots; we thought it was the military at first until we saw it was the Fulanis who came in from Zango Urban. Before the military arrived, they’d succeeded in killing six persons, including two children.”

The arrival of military forces was the turning point that prompted the attackers to flee into the hills, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Markus expressed the community’s frustration and desperation in the face of such recurrent violence, saying, “It’s unfortunate this kind of sad incident continues to happen in our villages when we thought normalcy had returned. We appealed to the government and the military to redouble their efforts and declare war against these terrorists who invaded villages and killed innocent people.”

This comes days after students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, who were abducted by bandits on September 22nd, have been freed from captivity.

Notably, three students had managed to escape earlier and returned to the school under military protection.

The rescue operation for the remaining students was successful on Monday, September 25th, as a combined team of security agents tracked the bandits, even utilizing two helicopter jets in their pursuit.
