The Lagos Annex of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Zone 2, Alagbon, has shed light on the ongoing investigation into the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as MohBad’s, June 27 petition.

This petition alleged a series of disturbing events, including assault and property damage, involving music promoter Samson Balogun, aka Sam Larry, and others.

The FCID, in an exclusive interview, unveiled key details of the investigation. It was revealed that the late MohBad had reported the alleged assault and threats to life to the police, but he failed to appear at the police station to adopt and defend his petition or provide evidence to substantiate his claims.

This development has added complexity to an already contentious situation. MohBad’s petition, dated June 27, 2023, painted a harrowing picture of events that unfolded during a video shoot. According to the petition, Sam Larry and 15 others, armed and menacing, stormed the shoot where MohBad and fellow artist Zlatan Ibile were working, threatening havoc.

The situation escalated, resulting in the destruction of equipment valued at over N5 million and physical assault on MohBad, who narrowly escaped with injuries.

The petition specifically stated, “On 25th June, 2023, while having a video shoot with another artiste by the name Zlatan (Ibile), the above-mentioned persons numbering about fifteen led by Sam Larry Elegushi invaded the premises with dangerous arms such as guns, cutlasses, etc., where I was shooting the video.”

Adding to the gravity of the situation was Sam Larry’s alleged claim during the altercation that he was acting on behalf of Oba Elegushi of Lagos State, heightening concerns about the incident.

Despite these disturbing allegations, the police’s hands were tied due to MohBad’s failure to participate in the investigation. Police Public Relations Officer, FCID Annex, Lagos, Oluniyi Ogundeyi, explained, “Mohbad refused to show up to defend his petition and also provide evidence to assist the police in carrying out a proper investigation.”

Moreover, the situation took a contentious turn when a lawyer representing Sam Larry and the other suspects filed a counter-petition, accusing MohBad of defamation of character.

The police’s stance was further affirmed by the Force PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who emphasized the commitment to a comprehensive investigation into MohBad’s untimely demise.

He noted that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police had been tasked with unravelling the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death, urging those with valuable information to come forward. The controversy surrounding Sam Larry intensified after a video surfaced online, showing him and his associates allegedly harassing MohBad during a music video shoot.

This video incited public outrage, with social media users condemning the alleged bullying and threats against the late artist. Sam Larry subsequently deactivated his Instagram account due to the influx of cyberattacks.

Tragically, MohBad, at the age of 27, passed away on September 12, 2023. His management issued an official statement confirming his death, describing him as “light until the very end.”

As the investigation into MohBad’s petition continues, it remains a complex and sensitive case that has exposed fault lines within the Nigerian music industry.
