Farida Sobowale, a prominent figure in Lagos social circle, has opened up about her harrowing attempt to leap off the Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon on Friday, shedding light on the distressing circumstances that led her to such a desperate act.
The incident unfolded as viral footage depicted Farida being consoled by concerned individuals while standing on the precipice of the bridge, seemingly contemplating suicide.

Reports indicate that those at the scene worked fervently to dissuade her from taking her own life, managing to intervene before she made any irreversible decisions. Farida was subsequently led away in her vehicle to an undisclosed location, where she could receive the support she needed.
In a voice recording that circulated widely across social media platforms, Farida Sobowale offered a candid glimpse into the turmoil she had been grappling with. She revealed that her mental state had severely deteriorated following the abrupt collapse of her marriage to a fellow Lagos socialite, a union that had cost her a substantial sum of N100 million.
The marriage, which had appeared promising, disintegrated just two months after the grand wedding.
In her candid admission, Sobowale confessed to the overwhelming depression that engulfed her when her husband left their shared home. She spoke about her sense of frustration and the multiple instances in which she had contemplated ending her own life.
“Friends and families .warned me not to go into the marriage. They told me that the man only wanted my money but I was recalcitrant,” Farida lamented
She expressed deep remorse for exposing her children to such a traumatic ordeal, acknowledging that leaving them behind after a suicide would have been an unbearable weight to carry.
“I am so sorry for putting my children in such a position. I would not have forgiven myself if I had abandoned them after committing suicide.”
