In a remarkable display of enthusiasm for continuous education, more than 1600 students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have expressed their interest in benefiting from the free Coursera courses recently announced by the university.
Within just 24 hours of releasing the call for expressions of interest, the UNILAG administration has witnessed an overwhelming response from their student body. This initiative, which offers students the opportunity to access and learn from a wide array of courses on Coursera, has struck a chord with those seeking to enhance their skillset and knowledge beyond the traditional classroom setting.

The call for expression of interest, which was circulated university-wide, invited students to indicate their desire to participate in this unique educational opportunity. The response has been nothing short of extraordinary, with more than 1600 students already registering their interest.
Recall that they recently trained its academic and non-academic staff in the Coursera Program.
The Free Coursera Courses for Students Project is being sponsored by the African Engineering and Technology Network (AFRETEC), with funding from the MasterCard Foundation. AFRETEC is a conglomerate of six (6) African universities working to promote inclusive digital transformation in Africa. It comprises: University of Lagos, Nigeria; American University, Cairo, Egypt; University of Nairobi, Kenya; University of Rwanda, Kigali; and Carnegie Mellon University, Kigali.
These free Coursera courses, sponsored by UNILAG, are expected to cover a diverse range of subjects, providing students with the chance to explore new fields, acquire valuable skills, and bolster their academic portfolios. Some of the courses are ASU TESOL Professional, Cloud Archictecture with Google Cloud, Cloud Engineering with Google Cloud, Computational Thinking for Problem-Solving, Creative Problem Solving, Critical Thinking Skills for the Professional, Collaborative Foresight: How to Game the Future, Communication in the 21st Century Workplace among others.
