Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan risks the possibility of at least a one-year ban by the Athletics Federation as the 100m hurdles world record holder has revealed that she has been charged for missing three doping tests in the year 2023.

Part of the World Athletics rules on doping states that athletes must make themselves available for three tests annually and also state their calendar of events every year and locations.

Amusan has however vowed to fight the charges as she insists that she was tested in-between one of her recent medal winning races in Hungary.

“I am a clean athlete, and I am regularly, (maybe more than the usual) tested by the AIU (Athletics Integrity Unit) – I was tested within days of my third (missed test), ” the Nigerian wrote on Instagram.

“I have faith that this will be resolved in my favour and that I will be competing at the World Championships in August.”

The 26-year-old said her case will be decided by a tribunal of three arbitrators.

Nigerian track and field stars have in recent times been banned for their supposed illegitimate use of banned substances leading to their disqualification from high profile tournaments or outright bans.

Divine Oduduru, Blessing Okagbare and Grace Nwokocha have in recent times been penalised for using banned substances.
