Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 election, Mr Peter Obi, on Wednesday visited Plateau State to commiserate with the governor, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, and the people over the recent killings in the state.
Obi, who used the visit to mark his 62nd birthday, had earlier urged his supporters including Obidients and members of the Labour Party, to celebrate with him by visiting hospitals, care homes and show them love.

Obi said it was his two-decade-old decision not to celebrate his birthday in an elaborate manner given the dire situation in the country, adding that he would be happy to do so in a functional and prosperous nation.
In a tweet on Wednesday night, Obi said: “In line with my earlier humble request for friends and well-wishers to spread the love today by visiting hospitals, schools and care homes to mark my 62nd birthday, I visited Plateau State to commiserate with the Governor and the people over the recent widespread unfortunate killings in the State, which are unacceptable.”
He also visited Mangu Local Government Area, where over 300 people, including women and children, have been killed and condoled with them over the attacks on them.
He also visited Bungha Pilot School in the local government which according to him, is the biggest Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state, occupied by about 60 communities. He donated the sum of N5 million with some bags of rice to support the people ravaged by insecurity and killings in camp.
Obi said he hailed the state governor for the way he has handled the crisis in the state and cared for the people affected.
“I appreciated the Governor of Plateau State, HE Barr @CalebMutfwang, for his warm reception and kind comments. I thanked him, especially for the great efforts he has made so far concerning the killings and terror attacks in the State, and for ensuring that the IDPs are well cared for.
“I commiserated with him over the killings in the State and encouraged him to continue to deliver good governance to the people.
“I also thanked the traditional ruler Mishkaham Mwaghavul, HRH John Putmang Hirse, for the hospitality, and assured the Mangu people that in the New Nigeria, their security and that of every Nigerian will be prioritized.”
Many Nigerian leaders felicitated Obibon his birthday.
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, described Obi as a respect leader.
In a statement posted on his verified Twitter handle, Atiku noted that Obi’s dedication to service continues many people.
He said: “Peter Obi is a respected leader and distinguished former governor of Anambra state and presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
“Your dedication to service and growth continues to inspire.
“As you add another year today, I, on behalf of my family and team wish you many more years in good health and vitality.”
Also, the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, described Obi as a brother.
He prayed that God would him many more years of good health.
“On behalf of my family and the entire people of Abia State, I wish my brother and friend, presidential candidate of the Labor Party, and former Governor of Anambra State, an indelible 62nd birthday celebration.
“My sincere prayer is that you enjoy many more years of good health, happiness, and prosperity,” stated.
Also, the immediate past governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, congratulated Obi on his 62nd birthday and prayed to God to grant him more “strength, grace, and wisdom so you can keep on doing great things for humanity.”
On his part, Valentine Ozigbo, PDP governorship candidate in the Anambra’s November 2021 election, described Obi as one with an unconcern for welfare of humanity.
According to Ozigbo, Obi is “A shining emblem of hope, not just for Nigeria, but for the Black race, Peter Obi has accomplished feats worthy of celebration with his Obidient Movement. Yet, in his characteristically humble and focused manner, he chooses to keep his gaze fixed on the goals ahead, seeking to realise even greater achievements for our collective good.
“Today, let us take a moment to honour Mr Peter Obi, express our gratitude for his relentless dedication, and join him in envisioning a brighter, more prosperous future,” wrote.
