Stock Investors In Nigeria Lose N105.77bn, Abbey Mortgage Bank Among Losers

The market valuation of the Nigerian stock exchange dropped by N105.77 billion to N32.12 trillion market capitalisation on Friday, 16 June, from N32.23 trillion posted on Thursday.

This was due to the 194.25 basis points lost by the All-Share Index (ASI). The ASI closed at 59,000.96 index, which is below the preceding day’s 59,195.21 ASI.

At the end of trading on Friday, N6.51 billion was exchanged for 622.41 million shares in 9,417 deals. 

This contrasted with the 1.17 billion shares, traded in 12,611 deals on Thursday, worth N15.35 billion.

Top five gainers

  • Wapic’s share appreciated by 10 per cent to rise from N0.60 kobo to N0.66 kobo per share.   
  • FTN Cocoa grew by N0.12 kobo, up from N1.23 kobo to N1.35 kobo per share.   
  • Transcorp Hotel ended trading with N14.60 kobo from N13.31 kobo per share, rising by N1.29 kobo.   
  • RT Briscoe gained 9.68 per cent to end trading at N0.34 kobo, having opened with N0.31 kobo per share.   
  • Unity Bank’s stock was up by 9.68 per cent, closing at N1.02 from N0.93 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • NEM depreciated by N0.69 kobo, dwindling from N6.99 kobo to N6.30 kobo per share.   
  • Abbey Mortgage Bank also fell by N0.16 kobo to end trading at N1.52 kobo, after opening at N1.68 kobo per share.   
  • CWG followed the same path, losing N0.17 kobo after trading hours, to sell at N1.62 kobo from N1.79 kobo per share.   
  • John Holt reported a decline of N0.12 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N1.27 kobo to end trading at N1.15 kobo per share.   
  • TIP share depreciated to N0.39 kobo from N0.43 kobo, after losing 9.30 per cent during trading hours.   

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • Living Trust reported 103.43 million shares, valued at N278.23 billion, were traded on its floor.   
  • UBA recorded 46.26 million shares valued at N524.25 million.   
  • Access Corporation saw investors trade 41.02 million shares valued at N591.84 million.   
  • Zenith Bank recorded 39.09 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N1.21 billion.   
  • Sterling Financial Holdings reported 37.03 million shares, valued at N115.88 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
