Abia Gov, Otti, Suspends Payment Into Banks From Unauthorised Channels

The newly inaugurated governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, has suspended payments of revenue from all unauthorised channels in the state.

A statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, said the measure which is to ensure proper accountability, takes immediate effect.

It said all payments are to be made through designated Bank Branches.

The statement reads: “For proper accountability and reporting, the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, by this notice suspends payments from all unauthorised channels.

“All payments are to be made through designated Bank Branches. Additional approved online and offline channels will be communicated by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue and Digital Transformation.

“This announcement takes immediate effect.”

Meanwhile, the governor has terminated all appointments for any form of revenue enforcement in the state.

Uko said the governor’s move was part of measures to sanitise activities around the transport sector and markets in the State.

It also directed the affected persons to return all Government property in their possession to the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue and Digital Transformation, with immediate effect.
