2. Fuel scarcity: Transporters Shelve Plan To Occupy NNPCL Office

Transport unions have withdrawn their plan to occupy the headquarters of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) over the scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across the country.

The transport unions which include the Tricycles Owners Association of Nigeria (TOWAN), Commercial Motorcycles Association of Nigeria, (COMAN), Luxurious Bus Operators Union (LUBOU), National Association of Traders of Nigeria (NASTAN), Market Women Association of Nigeria (MAWAN) and Trailer Drivers Association of Nigeria (TADAN), said the read for its suspension of the action was because they noticed improved supply and distribution of fuel in some parts of the country.

The unions had on 6th February, issued a 78-hour ultimatum for the government to address acute fuel and gasoline scarcity and threatened to occupy the headquarters of the (NNPCL) if the ugly development was not addressed.

They, however, stated that they suspended the planned strike as a result of improvement in the availability of fuel across the country.

4. Atiku Urges DSS To Invite Fani Kayode To Explain Coup Allegation

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian Police Force to invite former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode, to explain his allegations of an attempted coup being planned by Atiku and top generals.

Fani Kayode, who is the the Director of Special Projects and New media of the Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign Council, had in a tweet on Sunday, alleged that Atiku met with top army generals with a possible plan to scuttle the election or perpetrate a coup that could destabilise the country.

5. 2023 Elections: Catholic Bishops Urges INEC To Ensure Efficacy Of BIVAS

Catholic Bishops under the umbrella of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) have raised concerns about the efficiency, functionality and accuracy of the newly introduced Bi-modal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) in the coming elections.

The bishops, who had their plenary meeting in Abuja on Sunday, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the BIVAS will work on election day in all the 176,846 polling units across the country and also effectively transit results to guarantee credible polls.

The scarcity of the new naira banknotes continues to linger with no hope in sight, people living in rural areas have resorted to trade by barter, an old medium of economic exchange.

Majority of people across the country have been unable to access the new notes after depositing the ones that were in their possession.
