G5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not reach any agreement to support presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu in the 2023 election, says Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Wike stated this at a function in Obio/Akpo Local Government Area in Rivers on Friday.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelA post that went viral on Thursday had suggested that the G5 governors led by Governor Wike had met with Tinubu in their London trip and reached agreement to support him in the 2023 presidential poll.
The post had alleged that Wike had an interview with BBC where he purportedly said he has urged his colleagues in the integrity group to support Tinubu because only him can win the presidential election.
Reacting to that, governor Wike described the report as haux, declaring that the meeting never took place and they never had any such agreement.
He berated some media platforms that disseminated the report, saying he is not afraid of making public his intention of who to support.
He accused some media houses of being politically biased by supporting some candidates.
Wike challenged the purveyors of the report to produce pictures and video of the said BBC interview.
“When I want to do something I will do it. You don’t need to speculate.
“They said there is trouble. There is no trouble yet. What we had is an introduction to the trouble that will come,” Wike told the gathering.
He said he only went to enjoy himself and his family in London and urged the people to ignore reports making such speculation.
He further stated that even if such a meeting took place it is not a crime because Atiku has also had meetings with APC governors.
“My dear people I just want to tell you that whatever decision I want to take I will let you know and I cannot take any decision without taking advice from you,” Wike further told the people.
“I am not one who will go and see somebody and I would hide,” he further stated.
The Rivers governor urged those opposing the political stance of the G5 governors to leave them alone and focus on their campaigns.
The governors under the Integrity Group that include Wike, Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo), had reportedly gone to London few days back for an engagement.
