Hours after taking oath of office, the newly sworn-in Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered all Osun bank accounts to be frozen till further notice.
Adeleke gave the directive shortly after his inauguration as the sixth Governor of the state.

The freezing of Osun bank accounts by the new governor was expected by his supporters following the post-election battle he had with his predecessor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had challenged his (Adeleke’s) victory at the Elctoral Tribunal. Oyetola had also appointed 30 permanent secretaries less one week to his exit. Adeleke had threatened that he would sack any of the appointed permanent secretaries who would accept the offer he described as a ‘Greek gift.’

The oaths were administered on both men by the Osun State Chief Judge, Adepele Ojo, at the Osogbo Township Stadium.
Adeleke disclosed that he would review all appointments by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, since July 17th 2022 when he lost election.
Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has gone to court to challenge the election of Adeleke. The trial is ongoing.
Adeleke gave an Executive Order to reverse the policies of Aregbesola which recognised Osun State as the ‘State of Osun,’ adding that the slogan of the State will no longer be ‘State of Virtue’ but ‘State of Living Spring’.
During his inauguration speech, the new governor said he is aware of the challenges in the state and the expectations from residents and is prepared to be “the servant of all.
“As I accept the mantle of leadership entrusted upon me by the people of our dear State, I am conscious of the enormous challenges and responsibilities ahead of me and will beginning from this hour, work day and night with deep sense of purpose to be a servant to you all,” Adeleke stated.
He promised to deliver on all his campaign promises, adding that, “Under my watch, I will correct past injustice, corrupt acts or policies by previous administration which are against the collective interest of our people.”
Dignitaries present to witness the event were that included the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate and his running mate, Atiku Abubakar and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa respectively, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom.
Also present at the inauguration were wife of the PDP presidential candidate, Titi Atiku, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, and a former Oyo governor, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, among others.
