Supporters of Mr. Peter Obi have urged him to ignore comments by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, regarding his presidential ambition.
Soludo said the Labour Party presidential candidate was playing a game with his electoral bid, adding that Obi did not have the necessary structure to win the Presidency on the Labour Party platform.
The governor stated these in an article he published on Monday, titled, ‘History Beckons and I Will Not Be Silent (Part 1).’
Soludo had, last Thursday, during an interview on Channels TV ‘Politics Today’ said investments done for Anambra State by Obi, an ex- governor of the state, were worth ‘’next to nothing.’’
The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor’s criticism of his predecessor triggered a series of backlashes from Obi’s supporters, especially on social media.
Obi ruled Anambra State between 2006 and 2014 on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). HE defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, after his tenure and later to the Labour Party in May 2022.
Here are some reactions to Soludo’s article that undermined Obi:
Dele Farotimi wrote: “To be fully Obidient, avoid losing your focus and guard. Ignore Soludo, he is designed to distract you from the ongoing revelations about the drug baron seeking the presidency. The good hunting dog is rarely distracted by the scurrying of squirrels in the underbrush. Focus!,”
@JajaPhD “Peter Obi cannot win” is stale. We moved past that months ago. So, Soludo needs to come up with something else.
“Obi is in the race to win. Even if he doesn’t win, his participation would have deepened our nascent democracy.”
Some accused Soludo of being jealous of Obi’s rising fame and nationwide acceptance in recent times.
“Soludo is simply jealous of Peter Obi and that will be his greatest undoing, instead of him to focus on improving governance from where his predecessor stopped, he is busy grappling words with Peter Obi and his army of devotees, body go tell am very soon.”
“Soludo just gave good reason for those who have been on the fence to support Peter Obi, he turned the issue to a personal attack rather than exposing him if he has anything to hide. He is jealous and envious of PO’s popularity,” @abiri_Olubunmi tweeted.
A tweep by a user identified as Ocular Priest said “Thank you Charles Soludo for confirming to doubters and all Nigerians that H.E Peter Obi’s candidacy is not an Igbo political agenda but a pan-Nigerian agenda for a better Nigeria.”
