A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday issued an order barring the Labour Party and its supporters from converging at the Lekki Tollgate, Lagos but can pass through the gate during their rally on October 1.
The party and it’s supporters fixed a rally tagged “Lagos 4 Million-Man March for Obi-Datti & GRV,” which was set to take place in three axis in Lagos namely Ikeja, Lekki and FESTAC to commence by 7:30 am on Saturday October 1.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelThe aim of the rally is to demonstrate their solidarity and support for the Labour Party presidential candidate, his running mate Yusuf Baba-Ahmed Daati, and Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rehodes Vivour (GRV).
Presiding Judge, Justice Daniel Osiagor gave the order while ruling on an injunction brought by 10 plaintiffs, including nine lawyers. The plaintiff are seeking among other things, to restrain the LP, its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his running mate, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, party national chairman, Barr. Julius Abure and their loyalists from holding the rally, citing possible breakdown of law and order that could also lead to a repeat of what happened on October 20, 2020 during the ENDSARS protest.
The court also directed the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Police Commissioner to ensure compliance with the order.
The 10 plaintiffs in the suit are Adedotun Ajulo, Salamatu Suleiman Lewi, Hakeem Ijaduola, Ogunbona Akinpelu, Owolabi K. Oluwasegun, Mogbojuri Kayode, Wuyep Mantim Nadom, Dimimu Mabel, Kolawole Salami, and Mr. Wale Abe Lawrence.
They filed the suit through their counsel Romeo Ese Michael.
The 1st to 10th defendants are Obi, Labour Party, Baba-Ahmed, Abure, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Commissioner of Police (Lagos State Command), Director-General (Department of State Services), Lekki Concession Company (LCC) Limited, Attorney-General of Lagos State and The Governor of Lagos State.
