The legal team of Senator Ugochukwu Uba has urged the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise him as authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.
In a letter to INEC dated 23rd July, 2021 which was obtained by Prime Business Africa, Ibrahim K. Bawa & Co on behalf of Sen. Uba, asked the electoral body to act on the judgement of Anambra State High Court suit no A/230/2021 between Senator Ugochukwu Uba Vs Independent Electoral Commission and 2 others.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelAccording to the letter, the High Court of Anambra State delivered final judgement in the matter on 19th July, 2021 after all parties including INEC, PDP, Valentine Ozigbo were heard, nullifying the purported primary at which Ozigbo was elected for being in disobedience of judgement of FCT High Court in suit No. FCT/HC/CV/7774/2020 between Samuel Anyakora vs PDP & 2 Others and being in violation of section 87 of the Electoral Act.
The letter noted that the court ordered that it is unlawful and illegal for Ozigbo, whether by himself, agents or proxies, to parade and or continue to parade himself or allow himself to be paraded as the governorship candidate of for PDP for the November 6 Anambra governorship election.
It stated that the court also ordered INEC to recognise, accept, adopt, receive and put the name of Uba as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the list of candidates eligible for the said election.
The letter further stated that the court jointly restrained INEC and other defendants in the case including PDP, from presenting or parading Ozigbo or any other person other than Uba as the candidate of the PDP for the November 6 election.
Recall that INEC left the PDP position vacant when it published names of candidates eligible for the November 6 Anambra State governorship election a week ago, citing obedience to court orders as reason.
Uba and Ozigbo have been locked in multiple legal battle to capture the sole ticket to represent the PDP in the upcoming election to elect the next governor of Anambra State. It is left to be seen what INEC will eventually do regarding this battle.
