The Senator Representing Jigawa Southwest, Alhaji Mohammad Sabo Nakudu has won the APC ticket to replace the candidate who died few weeks ago after winning the party primaries for the 2023 election.
Chairman of the election committee, Alhaji Umar Shehu declared Sen. Nakudu winner of the primary election conducted at the Aminu kano Triangle in Dutse the Jigawa State capital on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelAccording to the election committee chairman, Sen. Nakudu, who ran unopposed, swept 375 votes cast by the 375 delegates in the election.
Declaring Nakudu the winner, Shehu said, “I hereby affirmed that distinguished Senator Sabo Mohammad Nakudu, the senatorial candidate of the APC, having satisfied all the constitutional requirements and received the total of 375 votes from the 375 accredited delegates is hereby declared winner of Jigawa Southwest Senatorial District bye election held on this day 24th August, 2022.”
The bye primary election is coming following the death of Alhaji Tijjani Ibrahim who was the APC candidate for the Southwest senatorial seat but unfortunately died recently.
Alhaji Tijjani Ibrahim was one-time member of the House of Representatives where he represented Dutse/Kiyawa federal constituency for two terms. The election was to replace him in line with the Electoral Act 2022 which provides that in the event of death of a candiate, the party must within 14 days conducted fresh primaries to replace the candidate for the election.

Nakudu is a current member of the 9th Senate. He was first elected to the Senate to represent Jigawa South-West Senatorial District in 2015 and got re-elected in 2019.
He is also a former member of the House of Representatives, first elected in 2007 and re-elected in 2011.
