Officially, US comedian Chris Rock has refused to accept Will Smith’s apology saying, smith was just trying to play “victim” after the Hollywood actor posted a length apology for the Oscars slap.
“Everybody is trying to be a f***ing victim,” Rock reportedly said during a stand-up gig recently.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelContinuing, Rock then compared the Smith to former Death Row Records executive Suge Knight, who has spent years incarcerated for assault convictions, according to Page Six.
“If everybody claims to be a victim, then nobody will hear the real victims. Even me getting smacked by Suge Smith … I went to work the next day, I got kids.”
“Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face,” the comedian said.
Similarly, a source close to Rocked hinted that the comedian may never be ready to rekindle a friendship with the Hollywood star on the grounds that Smith’s apology was simply a bid to repair his public image.
“Chris has no plans to reach out to Will’ before adding: ‘He [Will] needs the public’s forgiveness, not Chris,” a source close to the comedian said.
In a video released on social media recently, Smith apologised directly to the stand-up comedian.
He revealed Rock has refused to speak to him about the incident and said his behaviour was “unacceptable.”
He also said he reached out to Chris, but the message he got was that he’s not ready to talk…when he is, he will reach out.
Smith said his wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith, who was seated next to him and grimaced as Rock joked about her, said nothing to prompt his attack.
“I made a choice on my own,” he said, apologizing also to Pinkett-Smith and the couple’s children “for the heat that I brought on all of us.”
It will be recalled that Smith had made a public apology shortly after the incident, and was banned from attending the Oscars for the next 10 years after the slap.
The 53-year-old also resigned his membership with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — although the organization did not revoke his best actor award for “King Richard.”
