The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for September 2022 may be postponed across the continent due to the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to move the tournament to January 2024 reports Prime Business Africa.

The continent’s premier competition was originally scheduled to hold in the summer of 2023 but CAF elected to shift it to January of the following year due to unfavourable weather conditions expected in Cote d’Ivoire, the host nation.

To this end, sources close to decision makers at the CAF headquarters in Cairo on Wednesday hinted that a postponement of the September matches is likely which in turn would enable the continent’s representatives at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to further enhance their preparations.

Should that be the case, Super Eagles of Nigeria are expected to play international friendlies with some countries participating at the World Cup in Qatar.
