Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who was shot whilst making a campaign speech during Sunday’s upper house election has been confirmed dead on Friday morning.

Medics at the hospital revealed that Abe had no vital signs when he arrived at the hospital but that they conducted resuscitation.

In an emotion laden press conference after confirmation of the demise of Abe, prime minister Fumio Kishida condemned the attack, saying: “It is barbaric and malicious and it cannot be tolerated.”
