Senate Receives List Of Nominees To Replace Amaechi, Akpabio, Nwajiuba, Onu

Six nominees have been listed by the Federal Government as replacements for the ministers that resigned to contest for the 2023 Presidential election reports Prime Business Africa.

President Muhammadu Buhari had directed aspiring Presidential candidates to resign from their political positions as enshrined in the law.

The Senate on Tuesday consequently has received the executive communication as read by Senate President Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan on the directive of President Buhari.

The letter read: “In accordance with Section 8 Subsection 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I hereby forward the underlisted ministerial nominees for your confirmation.”

Transport minister Rotimi Amechi stepped down from his position to run for the office of the President as well as Science and Technology Minister Ogbonnaya Onu, Deputy Education Minister Emeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State Mines and Steel Development, Uche Ogar and Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godswill Akpabio.

However Labour and Productivity Minister Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami and Minister of Women Affairs, Paulline Tallen all pulled back after initially showing interest in the race.

The nominees for replacing the former ministers are:

Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh – Abia State

Umana Okon Umana – Akwa Ibom State

Egwumakama Joseph Nkama – Ebonyi State

Goodluck Nnana Opiah – Imo State

Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub – Kano State

Ademola Adewole Adegoroye – Ondo State

Odum Odih – Rivers State
