National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged winner of the Presidential Primary in the ongoing national convention of the party at Eagle Square, Abuja.

Chairman of the APC election management committee and governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu declared Tinubu winner of the presidential ticket having polled 1,271 which was the highest number of votes, to defeat all the other 13 contestants in the exercise.

Bagudu who is also chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) made the declaration at the convention ground on Wednesday afternoon.

Prime Business had reported that Tinubu was leading in the race as the votes were being counted in the morning.

Immediate past minister of Transport, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi scored 316 votes thereby taking second position.

Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo socred 235 votes coming third in the race.

Other contestants include: Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, 152 votes; Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, 47 votes; Cross River governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, 37 votes; Ebonyi governor, David Umahi, 38 votes; and Sen. Ahmed Rufai Sani, 4 votes.

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba scored 1 vote each, while Pastor Tunde Bakare, Tien Jack-Rich, Sen. Rochas Okorocha and Ikeobasi  Mokelu scored 0 vote respectively.

According to the APC Election Committee, a total of 2,260 delegates voted at the party’s Presidential Primary.

Tinubu wins APC Primaries

Thirteen votes were declared invalid as the writings on ballots were illegible and could not be verified.

With the development, Tinubu emerges presidential flag bearer of the APC for the 2023 election.

He will be facing Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Peter Obi of Labour Party, among others.
