The crisis plaguing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)  is deepening, as  scribe of the Caretaker Committee, John James Akpanudoedehe, on Monday morning  reportedly issued an unsigned document statement  denying that the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Mai Mala Buni had been removed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

some leaders of the party expressed doubts on the source of the statement but said it’s indicative of  expected moves to scuttle the March 26 National Convention.

Describing the verified report as ‘sponsored’ and ‘fake news,’  Akpanudoedehe’s purported statement, which was  shared through the social media on Monday morning, reads in full:

”Our attention has been drawn to sponsored media reports on an imaginary leadership change in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC). The media report is fake news and should be disregarded.

”The APC is a progressive political party guided by rules. Leadership changes are not announced by ‘sources’ through name dropping in the media.

”We urge our teeming supporters, members and indeed the general public to remain calm and support the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led APC CECPC conduct a rancour-free and credible National Convention deserving of our great party.

SIGNED:

Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe Phd

National Secretary

APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC)

The statement, according to  leaders of the party  who are privy to the events, ”is indicative of expected resistance.”

Meanwhile, there are indications that  there  is heavy presence of security operatives at the APC headquarters in Abuja, a scenario similar to what happened when forces within the party removed former Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as  APC chairman.

‘Police is in control of the party Secretariat to ensure the maintenance of law and order and restricting both people and vehicular movements,” a party official told Prime Business Africa
