The Lagos State Government has condemned an event organised on Saturday in the state where plastics kegs containing petrol were handed out to people as souvenirs.
A statement by the state commissioner for information & strategy, Gbenga Omotoso described the action as “dangerous” adding that it is against safety measures in public places as such could lead to loss of lives in the event fire outbreak.
A video that has gone viral, showed people distributing fuel with 10 litre plastic kegs branded with an inscription “Erelu Okin Foundation Installation Party” at an event centre in Lagos.

Omotoso said, “There is no doubt that this action is dangerous and can lead to loss of lives and property. It is blatantly against all safety measures in such places.
“The Lagos State Government through the Safety Commission is investigating this matter and will ensure that all parties to this reprehensible action are made to account for it.
“The safety of lives and properties of Lagosians and visitors remain a top priority to the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.
“We, therefore, advise that actions that can lead to loss of lives and properties be avoided.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos Safety Commission and the Rapid Response Squad has swung into action and sealed off Havillah Event Centre, Oniru, where the event held for contravening public safety rules.
Consequently, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has ordered arrest of all individuals involved in the fuel distribution.
