inDrive, a global ride-hailing platform, has issued a statement addressing recent reports of protests by drivers and security concerns in Nigeria’s ride-hailing industry.
Prime Business Africa had reported that its drivers had embarked on strike action to protest low-priced fares and general insecurity to which inDrive drivers were exposed to.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelAccording to the company, its data does not reflect a decline in driver participation, but rather an increase in the number of drivers joining its platform. inDrive attributed this growth to its transparent model, which prioritizes driver autonomy and fair pricing.
The company’s bidding system allows drivers and passengers to negotiate and agree on a mutually acceptable fare, ensuring that drivers retain control over their earnings. inDrive also boasts about offering the lowest service fee in Nigeria, at 9.99%, allowing drivers to maximize their income.
Regarding recent union protests, inDrive clarified that the supposed strike is not related to its users, who are largely independent drivers. The company emphasised its commitment to providing a fair and flexible ride-hailing service, where drivers and passengers have control over pricing.
Timothy Oladimeji, Country Representative for inDrive in Nigeria, stated, “inDrive remains committed to providing a fair and flexible ride-hailing service where drivers and passengers have control over pricing. We stand by our transparent approach, ensuring that drivers always have the freedom to choose the fares that work best for them.”
