The expulsion was officially announced in a letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor I. Modebelu. The university stated that the decision followed the recommendation of the Student Disciplinary Committee, which found the student guilty of violating the institution’s disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).

The incident, which gained public attention after a viral video surfaced online, involved Precious attacking a lecturer identified as Dr. Chukwudi Okoye.
Reports indicate that the altercation happened when the lecturer interrupted a TikTok video that Precious was recording on campus. This led to a confrontation that escalated into physical assault. The incident sparked public outrage, with many calling for strict disciplinary action against the student.

The university’s letter stated “The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, which was found to be a gross misconduct and violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).”
UNIZIK Orders Immediate Expulsion
Following the disciplinary committee’s recommendation, UNIZIK’s management approved the student’s expulsion, which takes immediate effect. The institution also directed Precious to vacate the university premises and return any school property in her possession.
The letter continued “Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled, and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The expulsion takes immediate effect. You are expected to vacate the university premises immediately and return any university property in your possession.”
Reactions to UNIZIK’s Decision
The decision by UNIZIK has generated widespread reactions among students, lecturers, and the general public. Some have applauded the university for taking swift action to maintain discipline, while others believe the punishment is too severe.
A lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, who requested anonymity, said “This decision sends a clear message that UNIZIK will not tolerate any form of misconduct against lecturers. Respect for lecturers and the institution’s rules must be upheld.”
Some students, however, feel that the university should have considered a lesser punishment. A final-year student of the university, who identified herself as Amaka, said “I understand that she was wrong, but outright expulsion is harsh. Maybe suspension or community service could have been considered.”
UNIZIK Reinforces Commitment to Discipline
The university has emphasised that its disciplinary policies are designed to maintain order and uphold academic integrity. UNIZIK authorities stated that disciplinary actions will continue to be enforced to deter unruly behaviour among students.
A statement from the university management reads “Nnamdi Azikiwe University remains committed to fostering a safe and disciplined learning environment. Any act of indiscipline will be addressed according to the institution’s rules and regulations.”
What Next for the Expelled Student?
With the expulsion taking immediate effect, Precious will no longer be a student at UNIZIK. She is now required to leave the university premises and seek alternatives for her academic future. It remains unclear if she will appeal the university’s decision or seek admission into another institution.
