FA Cup: Ndidi Bounces Back, To Battle Man United At Old Trafford

Sidelined Leicester City defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, is set for action, after Coach Ruud van Nistelrooy confirmed the Nigeria international is fit and good to go.

The Foxes face Manchester United Friday (tonight) in the fourth round tie of the FA Cup at the Old Trafford, in a winner takes all encounter.

Ndidi has been on the sidelines since sustaining a muscle injury during Leicester City’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion last December.

His absence has been felt in the midfield, but after several weeks of rehabilitation, he has resumed training and is now considered fit for selection.

“Wilf is fine,” van Nistelrooy stated during a press conference, as quoted on the club’s official website. “He had a great week of training, both last week and this week. I can confirm he’ll be part of the squad tomorrow.”

Manchester United earned a point in their opening FA Cup match, drawing 1-1 at Emirates Stadium against Arsenal before advancing 5-3 on penalties, while Leicester City claimed a 6-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers at home in their opening FA Cup match. James Justin netted a brace in that encounter.

In the last meeting between both sides, Man United ran away with a 3-0 victory at the Old Trafford in a premier league clash, and will be hoping to re-enact the feat tonight.

Manchester United have got the better of Leicester of late, unbeaten in their last five matches. Leicester on their part, are looking for their first win in fixtures between the two teams since October 2021.

In their last six matches in all competitions, Manchester United have won four and lost two. They scored nine and conceded seven goals. The Foxes on the other hand,  have won two and lost four in their last six. They scored nine and conceded 13 over that period, netting first in one of the six.

Despite his initial set back, Ndidi has made 15 appearances this season providing four assists. The 28 year old who joined Leicester city from Genk in 2017, has since accumulated 238 appearances for the side with 11 goals to his credit.

Tonight’s clash flags off a weekend of FA Cup clashes that stretches through Saturday to Sunday, Monday and Tuesday respectively.

In some of the fixtures lined up for Saturday, embattled Manchester City who lost woefully to Arsenal recently will be hoping to do better in the FA Cup when they visit Leyton Orient.
