ChatGPT Vs. DeepSeek AI: Which One Is More Human-like In Conversations?

Have you been following the DeepSeek AI trend? Many wonder if it will replace ChatGPT. DeepSeek AI shows promise with its R1 model’s reasoning skills and affordability. But the real question is: Does it sound more human?

AI chatbots are great for many tasks, including writing and communication, but people can usually tell when a text is AI-generated. This often forces the user to go through the extra stress of editing responses or using other AI tools to make them sound human.

Now, DeepSeek AI is in the mix. But is it better at sounding human, or just another chatbot with a digital accent?

In this article, we put both AI models to the test by providing them with the same prompts to see which one generates more human-like and simple responses. Let’s get started.

ChatGPT vs. DeepSeek: Which One Sounds More Human?

ChatGPT vs DeepSeek AI

Let’s run a test by getting ChatGPT and DeepSeek AI responses to some prompts. We’ll start with casual conversations before moving on to more serious ones and analysing each response every step of the way.

Prompt 1:

“Hi ChatGPT, I had a really stressful day. Just need to vent a little. Can you chat with me like a friend?”

ChatGPT’s Response:

“I’m sorry you had a rough day. That sucks. Want to talk about it? I’m here to listen—no judgement, just vibes. What happened?”

DeepSeek’s Response:

“Hey there, I’m really sorry to hear you had such a stressful day. That sounds tough, and I’m here to listen. What’s been going on? Sometimes just talking it out can help a little. No judgment, just a friendly ear (or, well, text box). Let it out!”

Responses Analysis:

Here are our observations from ChatGPT’s response:

  • It feels casual and conversational, like a real friend texting.
  • The response uses relaxed language such as “that sucks,” which makes it sound more human.
  • It is also short and straight to the point, which would naturally match a random conversation.
  • But overall, it lacks warmth.

For DeepSeek AI response, however:

  • It is more empathetic and reassuring.
  • It does sound like an AI-written text because generally AI texts are known for sounding overly polite. However, it contains an element of warmth.
  • The length also makes it less natural.
  • Also, the phrase “a friendly ear (or, well, text box)” makes it obvious that it’s AI, which reduces its human-like authenticity.

So from this analogy, we can deduce that ChatGPT’s response is shorter, casual, and more human-like, but DeepSeek’s response is warm but has an AI tone.

Let’s carry out a few more tests, this time practical.

Prompt 2

“Write a tweet about how it always rains when I forget my umbrella.”

ChatGPT’s Response:

“Every time I forget my umbrella, the rain sees it as a personal invitation. But let me carry one? Not a single drop. 😂🌧️☔”

DeepSeek’s Response:

“Of course it rains the ONE day I forget my umbrella. The universe really said, ‘Let’s make it personal.’ 🌧️☔ #WetAndSalty”

Responses Analysis:

Let’s talk about ChatGPT’s response:

  • It has a playful and humorous tone.
  • The tweet feels natural.
  • It is slightly wordy.
  • The emojis fit the text.
  • The response is relatable.

For DeepSeek:

  • The response is shorter and punchier, which makes it quicker to read and more likely to grab attention.
  • It is also humorous.
  • It goes the extra mile to include a hashtag, common with X posts, showing that it fully understands what it’s doing.

Now this is a close call because both responses sound like something a human would write; however, if we had to pick a winner here, we’d give it to DeepSeek.

It matches the short and direct nature of a social media post, especially with the hashtag. It sounds like something that somebody would naturally post on X for engagements compared to the first post.

Let us know if you think differently, though. Now, let’s move on to our final prompt.

Prompt 3

“Explain inflation like I’m a 10-year-old.”

ChatGPT’s Response

“Sure! Imagine you have a pocket full of 10 shiny coins, and each coin can buy you a candy bar. Now, let’s say the store starts charging 12 coins for that same candy bar. Suddenly, your 10 coins aren’t enough to buy the same candy bar anymore.

That’s what inflation is—it’s when the prices of things like candy, toys, or even a trip to the movies go up over time. So, with inflation, your money can buy less than it could before. It’s like when you need more coins to get the same stuff you used to buy with fewer coins.

Basically, inflation makes things more expensive. Does that make sense?”

DeepSeek’s Response

“Sure! Imagine you have $10, and with that, you can buy 10 candies because each candy costs $1. But one day, the candy store says, “Now each candy costs $2!”

“Now, with your same $10, you can only buy 5 candies. That’s inflation—it’s when prices go up, and your money doesn’t buy as much as it used to. It happens when there’s too much money around or not enough stuff to buy, so things get more expensive. Make sense?😊”

Now, let’s analyse both responses:

ChatGPT’s response is clear and detailed but is a bit long and that might make it harder for a 10-year-old to follow. It also doesn’t sound naturally conversational, especially with the final “Does that make sense?” question.

The DeepSeek AI response, on the other hand, is simple and relatable, especially the comparison between the number of candies before and after the price change.

It is also straight to the point and easier to follow, and the smiley face emoji makes it feel more friendly and warm.

Although the “too much money around or not enough stuff” might seem too abstract for a child to understand.

However, the tone is more human-like because it feels more relatable, friendly, and engaging.

Final Observations

Generally, both AI models provided helpful and useful responses to the prompts given to them; however, a few observations were noted:

  • ChatGPT loaded up the responses almost immediately after they were asked, while DeepSeek AI took a few seconds to generate the answer.
  • ChatGPT does a great job at being structured, formal, and polite, while DeepSeek AI leans toward a more casual, expressive, and human-like response.
  • They both still sound robotic sometimes, so you might still need to tweak their responses so they can feel more natural.
