The United States has decided to postpone the commencement of of imposition of tariffs on goods from Mexico for one month.
U.S. President, Donald Trump, and his counterpart in Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, shared the news on Monday after their discussions.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelIn a series of agreements between the two neighbouring countries, Mexico will strengthen its security along the U.S. border to combat drug trafficking, Sheinbaum revealed.
“We had a respectful and productive conversation with President Trump about our relationship and sovereignty,” Sheinbaum stated on the social media platform X.
“Mexico will quickly send 10,000 National Guard troops to the northern border to help stop drug trafficking, especially fentanyl, from entering the U.S.,” she explained.

“The United States is also dedicated to preventing the flow of powerful weapons into Mexico,” she added.
Sheinbaum mentioned that teams from both countries would begin working on security and trade matters starting Monday.
“Tariffs are on hold for one month starting now,” she confirmed.
Trump supported this delay in a post on social media, describing his talks with the Mexican president as “very friendly.” He mentioned that both countries would negotiate during the upcoming month.
On Saturday, Trump had announced broad tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China due to a “major threat” posed by illegal immigration and drugs, which led Sheinbaum to promise a response.
