Donald Trump has been sworn in for the second term as United States of America president in a ceremony held at the U.S. Capitol building on Monday, 20 January 2025.

Speaking during the inauguration, Trump referred to the assassination attempt on his life in Pennsylvania during the election campaign and asserted that God saved him to make America great again.

Trump, who was first elected in 2016 as the 45th president took oath of office on 20 January 2017 and served until 2021. He lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden.

He said that in his quest to return to power and take the country to its glorious destination, he has encountered many challenges more than any president in America’s 250-year history, adding that he has learned a lot in the journey to reclaim the “republic” which has not been an easy one.

He claimed that those who were against the cause he is fighting for were out to take his life but God saved him. “Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom, and indeed to take my life. Just a few months ago, in a beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear. But I felt then and believe even more so now, that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again,” he stated.

Trump reiterated one of his campaign promises to “put America first” in all policy decisions every single day of his administration.  “The Golden Age of America begins right now,” he assured, while promising to reform the US justice system to serve the interest of all.

Expressing his optimism in achieving a greater America, Trump said: “America will soon be greater, stronger, and far more exceptional than ever before. I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success, a tide of change is sweeping the country, sunlight is pouring over the entire world, and America has the chance to seize this opportunity like never before.”

He promised to bring back hope, prosperity, safety, and peace for citizens of every race, religion, colour and creed, adding that “for American citizens, January 20th, 2025 is Liberation Day.”

Speaking on his emergence during the November 2024 presidential election, Trump said he got massive support and votes from all elements of society, including “young and old, men and women, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, urban, suburban, rural and very importantly, we had a powerful win in all seven swing states.” He thanked the black and Hispanic communities, for of love and trust shown to him with their votes. He promised to address their concerns voiced during campaigns.

He took a swipe at his political opponents, saying he would “liberate” the country from a “radical and corrupt establishment.”

He said  he will sign a series of “historic executive orders” to begin the complete restoration of America.

I’ll Declare National Emergency At Our Borders.

Trump said one of the first things he will do is to declare national emergency at the country’s borders. “All illegal entry will immediately be halted and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came,” he stated.

He further said he will reinstate his “remain in Mexico” policy meant to limit entry of asylum seekers into the country from the Southern border.

He also stated that some of the executive orders will designate the Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organisations.

Defence and Security

Trump said that as the commander in chief, his major responsibility is to defend the country from security threats.

He said that by invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, he will use the power of federal and state law enforcement “to eliminate the presence of all foreign gangs and criminal networks bringing devastating crime to U.S. soil, including our cities and inner cities.”

Tackling Inflation and Energy crisis

The 47th U.S. president reiterated his resolve to tackle inflation crisis and bring down costs and prices in the country.

According to him, “the inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices and that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency.”

He assured that his administration will work towards making America a manufacturing nation once again.

He also hinted at increasing production of oil and gas from the country’s large deposits and export energy to other parts of the world.

“We will bring prices down, fill our strategic reserves up again, right to the top and export American energy all over the world.

“We will be a rich nation again and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help to do it,” he stated.
