In the video, the duo, dressed in white agbadas, danced while a mobile policeman held stacks of crisp naira notes, which they flung into the air.

The said policeman seen in the video as he held stacks of crisp naira notes for the naira flaunting duo, has since been arrested with  Nigeria Police Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirming the arrest.

“The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the Lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action. The involvement of the policeman has been condemned, as it’s unethical. We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police. Thanks”, he wrote.

On Saturday, The Cable reported that in an invite signed by the Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC, Michael Wetkas, the Okoya brothers were directed to report to the Head, Special Operations Team, at the 15A Awolowo Road Office of the commission by 10 am on Monday, January 13, 2025.

It is left to be seen whether after investigation the duo will be charged to court like in the case controversial cross dresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju better known as Bobrisky who was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse as well as Pascal Okechukweu better known as Cubana Chief Priest who was equally charged by the EFCC for same offence who had to settle out of court and reportedly asked to pay fine of N10million even as he was ordered to lead campaign against the abuse of naira.

Meanwhile, while waiting to have their date with the EFCC, Raheem Okoya has taken to the social media to issue apology for his involvement in a viral video that showed him and his brother, Wahab, abusing naira notes.

He asked for forgiveness and support, stating he wasn’t aware of the consequences of his actions.

In a statement posted on Friday via X, Raheem said, “To the Nigerian people, my actions were not to cause any trouble or harm. My intentions were pure and naive. I ask for your forgiveness and support in this situation, as I had no intention to raise such an alarm. I wasn’t fully aware of the consequences of my action.”

Netizens have however reacted to the issue and the apology that followed with some submitting that ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

nellycee02@nellycee02 said in reaction to the apology issued by Raheem, “He forgot the part that ignorance of the law is not an excuse”

Many of those who reacted however chose to be sarcastic about it concluding that nothing will come out of it, considering the influence of their father.

Archaic Writer✍🏽 @ARCHangel0_1 assured “They won’t harm you even if you do not apologise, your father is wealthy. Why are they angry with you when celebs do the same thing?”

DinoSpeaks 1 @Pearlywhitegem however took a swipe at the law saying “The main culprit is doing online apology while the standby police officer is doing time in police cell for merely helping him to hold the money. Nigeria’s laws are for the punishment of the poor and not for the rich.”

DuduByNature @SehindemiOluwa1 while using tears shedding emojis said “The rich will always apologise but the poor will always get instant judgment 😭😭😭😭😭It is well.”
