African School Of Governance Appoints Executive Management Team To Drive Academic Excellence

As activities take off at the African School of Governance (ASG) located in Rwanda, professionals have been appointed into the institution’s Executive Management Team to help achieve the foundational goal of academic excellence and innovation in leadership across the continent.

The executive management team is composed of distinguished professors and professionals with extensive experience in the management of prominent universities and educational institutions.

Announcing the appointment, ASG President, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, said: “The new leadership team of world class executives reflects the school’s commitment to academic excellence in governance, transformative education, and strategic innovation in governance.”

According to a statement released by the school, five professionals were appointed for various executive positions in the institution.

Meet the members of the executive team

Professor Anna Lucy Mdee was appointed Acting Vice-President of Academic Affairs. Mdee, who is currently a Professor in the Politics of Global Development at the University of Leeds, UK, is a seasoned academic leader, teacher and researcher whose work has spanned various aspects of development in Africa including water security, sanitation and sustainable development, informal workers and social protection, local governance and service delivery, and gender mainstreaming over more than 25 years.

She obtained a PhD in International Development at the University of Bradford, UK; M.A. in Social Sciences at Open University, and M.A. in Social Anthropology at Cambridge University.

According to the statement,

Prof. Mdee and Mark Nkurunziza, who is the institution’s Vice-President for Finance and Operations, will serve as deputies to the ASG President, Prof. Moghalu.

In addition to the two Vice-Presidents, ASG also appointed a number of Directors which include Dr. Edward Kadozi, who joins as Director of Academic Affairs and Associate Professor. Dr. Kadozi was a Senior Lecturer in environmental economics, Migration and Development, and development economics in graduate programmes at the University of Rwanda and Kigali Independent University.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Amsterdam, a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from Tsinghua University in China, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Rwanda. He is the Founder and Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Development Policy, a Pan-African Policy research Think tank.

Dr. Lite J. Nartey joins ASG Leadership as Director of Executive Education and Associate Professor. She holds a PhD in Management from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, a MS in Management also from The Wharton School, a MPA in Public & Nonprofit Management and Policy from the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University (NYU), and a B.Sc (First Class Honours) in Biological Sciences from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. Dr. Nartey is on the Strategy Faculty at INSEAD and was the Inaugural Distinguished Fellow of the INSEAD Africa Initiative. She teaches in INSEAD’s MBA and Executive Education programmes and has extensive experience in designing and delivering extensive education programs. Dr. Nartey was previously on the faculties of University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business, and Tufts University’s Fletcher School, and served as Visiting Scholar at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University and at Stanford University. Dr Nartey is a Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Saense Strategy Consulting LLC—a boutique strategic consulting firm specializing in Strategy and Business Development with a focus on Strategic change, Performance and Impact.

The African School of Governance also appointed Dr. Jane Adhiambo Chiroma as Head of Quality Assurance and Associate Professor, as well as the Acting Academic Registrar.

Dr. Chiroma has expertise in higher education leadership, quality assurance, and curriculum development. Having been a Senior Lecturer in the Leadership Department and Director of the Center for Online Teaching and Learning at Pan Africa Christian University in Nairobi, Dr. Chiroma has significantly contributed to academic excellence, digital learning, and institutional capacity building across Africa. Additionally, she has held positions as the Head of Education and Chair of Quality Assurance at prominent institutions establishing strong quality frameworks and fostering innovative educational methods. Dr. Chiroma specialises in research on democratic citizenship education, collaborative leadership, and digital technologies in education. She earned a Ph.D. in Education Policy, an MEd., and a BEd. Hons in Curriculum Studies from Stellenbosch University. Dr. Chiroma has a wide publication record in peer-reviewed journals and has mentored numerous graduate students.

The statement also indicated that Ms. Ngozichukwu Njemanze has been appointed as Director and Senior Policy Adviser and Chief of Staff to the President of ASG.

Njemanze is a Certified Governance Auditor, Bank Examiner, Chartered Secretary and Administrator.

She Njemanze is also a corporate governance thought leader and was Principal Manager in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s Financial System Stability Directorate. She previously worked in the World Bank for five years at the Bank’s Headquarters in Washington DC.

Ms. Njemanze will support the ASG President in strategic planning and policy development, strategy execution, risk management, and provision of support to corporate governance structures. She obtained the LL.M degree from Harvard Law School, the MBA from Kogod School of Business at American University in Washington DC, and the LL.B.(Second Class Upper) Hons. from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

ASG has also appointed Ms. Aissatou Diajhate as Director of External Affairs and Acting Director of Admissions. With her strong background in institutional partnerships, philanthropy and student engagement, Ms. Diajhate will lead strategic initiatives to enhance the university’s external relations and streamline inaugural student admission processes. She served in this capacity early in her career, leading Recruitment and Admissions for Suffolk University’s inaugural campus in Africa, based in Dakar Senegal. Ms Diajhate holds a Master’s inDevelopment Administration (MDA) from Western Michigan University, in the US, and Bachelor’s Degree in English from Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal. Ms. Diajhate most recently served as Chief of Staff & Advisor to the President & CEO of Mastercard Foundation in Toronto, Canada. She previously served as Country Representative of Mastercard Foundation in Ghana, as well as the Inaugural West Africa Regional Manager for IREX, implementing President Obama’s Young African Leaders

Initiative & Mandela Washington Fellowship Program.

The appointments of the ASG Executive Management Team mark a new chapter for the African School of Governance as it continues its mission to inspire leadership, foster innovation, and address the pressing governance challenges in African and empower future leaders. Meanwhile, the recruitment of a world-class academic faculty is ongoing and expected to be completed in April ahead of the 2025-2026 academic year commencing in September, when the inaugural cohort of graduate students of public policy will join ASG.
