Ekiti Court Finally Grants Farotimi N30m Bail, Must Not Speak To Media

December 20, 2024

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State, has finally granted bail to Human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi. But the freedom which was granted under a N30 million bail bond, also entails the submission of his passport, and  must not speak to the media over the issues surrounding his ordeal.

Prime Business Africa reports Farotimi was arrested early this month following a petition by Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) against him.

Chief Babalola accused Farotimi of defaming his character and personality through statements in his book, “Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System,” that were considered injurious to the nonagenarian legal luminary. The court ruled on Farotimi’s bail application on Friday

The embattled human rights lawyer had been remanded in a correctional centre after he was first granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti in another case of cyberbullying and defamation.

A N30 million bond, two sureties (one of whom must be a property owner), the submission of his passport, and a ban on giving media interviews are the requirements for the bail, according to the Ekiti magistrate court.
